Grafton High forward Elijah Moore, the Bay Rivers District boys basketball Player of the Year, has received his first Division I scholarship offer. Clippers coach Jeremy Jordan said that Virginia Military Institute offered Moore on Monday.
Later in the day, Jordan said that Moore got his second scholarship offer, from The Citadel of the Southern Conference.
Moore, a 6-foot-7 senior, lead Grafton to the Group AA Division 4 state championship game this past season with team high averages of 18 points and 10 rebounds. He has garnered interest from numerous D-I schools - Stony Brook, Wofford, Mount St. Mary's, Norfolk State, High Point, Liberty and Elon - but before Monday, Division II Virginia State had been the only one to offer.
"Virginia State offered him at Christopher Newport University Team Camp earlier this summer," Jordan said. "I told their coach (Darryl Jacobs) no one had offered yet, and he said `Let me be the first.'
"I think Elijah will get a number of other Division I offers."Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
