Inside the BRD: Promoted to Class AA Akron, former Poquoson baseball star Crockett is in Richmond this week

Drafted recently in the 4th round out of the University of Virginia by the Cleveland Indians, former Poquoson High baseball star Kyle Crockett was quickly promoted to Class AA last week and is pitching this week for the Akron Aeros in Richmond.

The Aeros play the Flying Squirrels at The Diamond in Richmond at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

Crockett, who led Poquoson to two AA state titles and was selected the Gatorade State Player of the Year while in high school, pitched a scoreless inning in the Aeros 7-6 loss at Richmond on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old left-hander made his AA debut for the Aeros in a 7-3 win last week over Eastern League opponent New Britain and struck two in pitching a scoreless inning.

Going into Wednesday's game, Crockett had pitched an inning in each of his three appearances and not alloed a run.
