Inside the BRD: Bruton boys basketball stars Carter and Swinton make all-region first team, while Panthers Calloway makes girls second team, Dillard is Coach of Year

Bruton High boys basketball stars Marcus Carer and Lonnie Swinton, who have led the Panthers into Saturday's 2A state tournament championship gave, have been selected to the 2A East All-Region first team. Alexis Calloway, who helped Bruton reach the regional quarters, was named to girls all-region second team.

Carter, a 6-foot-2 senior, is averaging about 21.0 points and 7.0 rebounds for the 26-1 Panthers. Swinton, a 5-8 senior, is averaging about 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals.

Players of the Year are not picked for Virginia High School League all-star teams. Bruton's Joe Dillard was named the boys regional Coach of the Year. The Panthers play unbeaten Dan River for the 2A state crown on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the VCU Siegel Center in Richmond.

Calloway averaged 9.0 points and 10.2 rebounds for Bruton's girls, which, like the boys team, won the Conference 33 tournament title.
