PLAYER OF THE YEAR Amanda Carner, Menchville, juniorCarner won the 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle in the Peninsula District meet, and won the 500 freestyle at the Eastern Region meet. She also won the 200 individual medley in the regional meet, setting a regional record in qualifying, then breaking it in the final. At state, she finished second in both the 200-meter IM and the 400-meter freestyle, but it took national records by Oakton's Kaitlin Pawlowicz to beat her.

FIRST TEAM200 medley relay: Tabb (Danielle Kimball, Victoria Barley, Grace Berardini, Katie O'Connell)The group finished fifth in the Group AA state meet in 1:51.39.

200 freestyle: Catherine O'Donnell, LafayetteShe swam 1:58.23 to finish fifth in the Group AA state meet.

200 individual medley: Athena Summa, Poquoson, sophomoreShe showed her versatility by winning the event in the Bay Rivers District meet in 2:08.45, more than four seconds better than anyone else.

50 freestyle: Caroline Chromik, Grafton, juniorShe won the district meet in 24.72, then finished fourth in the state meet.

100 butterfly: Athena Summa, Poquoson, sophomoreHer 57.98 time in the district meet was the best in the area by nearly a second.

100 freestyle: Katie O'Connell, Tabb, seniorShe swam 53.82 to finish third in the state meet.

500 freestyle: Nicole Piercy, Hampton Roads Academy, Eighth gradeShe swam 5:17.78 in the Virginia Independent Schools state championship meet.

200 freestyle relay: Tabb (Katie O'Connell, Grace Berardini, Victoria Barley, Danielle Kimball)The foursome finished second at state to Cave Spring, swimming a 1:39.40 time.

100 backstroke: Danielle Kimball, Tabb, sophomoreShe just missed breaking one minute, winning the Bay Rivers District title in 1:00.05.

100 breastroke: Kindyl Boyer, Lafayette, seniorShe won the Bay Rivers title in 1:05.76, then finished fourth at state.

400 freestyle relay: Grafton (Colleen Ward, Brianna Wilson, Alex Persinger, Caroline Chromik)The became state champion by swimming 3:43.98, winning their race by more than three seconds.

Diving: Taylor Busching, Jamestown, seniorShe eclipsed the former state record with 388.60 points, but finished second in the state meet
