THE STORYLINES

When will Jeff Nelson return? As we went to print, Nelson had not been cleared to resume his coaching duties following last fall's horrific sideline injury. Bubba Hooker is interim head coach until Nelson gets the good word.

Getting back to the playoffs. The Bruins missed out on the postseason for the first time in Nelson's four years in 2010. That probably frustrated him as much as the multiple knee surgeries. But there's enough talent to get back.

Stacked in the secondary. There are questions marks up front, but the Bruins will be tough to pass against with the return of Willie Davis, Rashawn Proctor, Nick Clark, Corey Sweetenburg and Dominique McBride. Lots of speed back there.

THE STANDOUTS

Frank Brown

Sr. | 6-2 | 190 | QB/P

After becoming the starter three weeks into the season, Brown threw for 1,201 yards and 13 touchdowns in directing the Bruins' spread. He'll need to cut down on his district-leading 17 interceptions and raise his completion percentage of 45.3.

Dominique McBride

Sr. | 5-10 | 180 | DB/RB/WR

Carried twice for 12 yards last season, but he's first in line to be the primary running back this season. Had a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown versus Kecoughtan.

Rashawn Proctor

Sr. | 6-1 | 185 | WR/DB

Led all PD wideouts last season with an average of 19.7 yards per reception. Five of his 22 catches went for touchdowns.

MILESTONE MOMENT:

Dec. 7, 1974. The Bruins' first appearance in a state final didn't start well with a 14-0 deficit, and it looked pretty grim late. But Ed O'Donnell recovered a fumble near the goal line, and Bethel beat Woodbridge 24-21 on Mike Dunn's scoring pass with 55 seconds left.
