Check out milestat.com's database of top track times this spring and it's easy to see why Grafton star Kyle King's last fling at high school track was such a success.
800-meter run: Best time of 1 minute, 54.18 seconds in the Region I meet. That was the eighth-best time in the state this spring and ranks second in Group AA.
Mile run: Best time of 4:12.16 in the Penn Relays. That was the best time in the state by 2 ¦1/2§ seconds. When that time is converted into a more traditional 1,600-meter time, it was still the second-fastest time in the state.
3,200-meter run: Best time of 9:06.72 in the Bay Rivers District meet. That was No. 1 in the state for all classifications and the fastest by a Group AA runner by three seconds.
At the Penn Relays, King, who has a scholarship to the University of Virginia, finished fourth in a tightly bunched mile field and was less than two seconds behind the winner.
His spring success closed out a year in which he repeated as state cross-country champion in the fall and won the 1,000-meter state championship in indoor track.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
