Hampton native Alyssa Bennett scored 21 points and Keiara Avant added 20 points to lead the Hampton University women’s team past visiting Delaware State 75-56 for its 10th straight win.
Bennett was 4-for-4 from 3-point range, and Avant was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier Monday.
Nicole Hamilton had a double-double for the Lady Pirates (11 points, 13 assists), and JoNiquia Guilford (12 points) and Olivia Allen (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Lady Pirates (19-5, 10-0 MEAC).
Hampton entered the game ranked sixth in Division I in field-goal-percentage defense, holding opponents to 32.4 percent shooting, and seventh in scoring defense, giving up 50.3 points per game.
Tierra Hawkins led DSU (8-14, 5-4), which shot 45.3 percent from the floor, with 18 points.

Rachel Gordon had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Ebony Brown added 10 points to lead Norfolk State past Maryland Eastern Shore at Echols Hall.
It was the second straight win for the Spartans (5-17, 3-8 MEAC), who held on after leading by as many as 20 points.
