Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke was named the state University Division Offensive Player of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors, and William and Mary’s Jimmye Laycock was honored as Coach of the Year.
James Madison linebacker Stephon Robertson was the Defensive Player of the Year. The Rookies of the Year were ODU running back Gerard Johnson (offense) and Virginia Tech defensive back Kendall Fuller (defense).
Gloucester High alumnus Colin Lenhardt of Johnson & Wales (R.I.), a 184-pounder, leads all NCAA Division III wrestlers with 16 pins this season (in a total time of 34:55).
Meanwhile, heavyweight Garrett Fosdyck, a Mathews High graduate at King (Tenn.) College, is tied for fifth among all weight classes in the NCAA Division II “Most Dominant Wrestler” standings.
The standings are calculated by adding match points (from 3 to 6 for victories and from minus-3 to minus-6 for losses) and dividing that number by the number of matches wrestled. Fosdyck is at 3.7143.
In D-III, Lenhardt is fifth on the “Most Dominant” list at 4.9259.
