Bruton grinds out 14-0 victory over Smithfield


WILLIAMSBURG-In a sloppy Bay Rivers District game with 16 penalties, four lost fumbles, and two interceptions, host Bruton (2-0) outlasted Smithfield (0-2) 14-0 Friday night.

Brad Burks and Bilah Wallace scored touchdowns for Bruton, Burks on a one-yard run in the first quarter and Wallace from 10 yards out in the third quarter.

Bruton spread out the carries among seven ball carriers with 35 running plays while Smithfield depended on workhorses Marquis Childress and Corey Williams. The Panthers rushed for 135 yards with only two pass completions, but hurt their cause with 89 penalty yards. Smithfield had five turnovers and 40 yards in penalties.
