Grafton's girls edged Jamestown 305-304 to earn the Bay Rivers District swim meet late Friday at Fort Eustis.
Tabb prevailed for the boys.
Grafton girls coach Whitney Riefler said the district title came down to the final race, the 400-freestyle relay. The Clippers had to lock up second place to defeat Jamestown, which won the relay, by a point.
The team of Brianna Wilson, Rebecca Hoppe, Alex Persinger and Carolina Chromik stepped up, placing second to give Grafton the edge.
"It was exciting," Riefler said of the meet. "It was back and forth. ... I'm proud of them."
Going into Friday's finals, Riefler said she had scored Grafton third following Tuesday's preliminaries. She said her team knew "who they needed to beat. They got the job done tonight."
Some highlights from the Grafton squad included Chromik winning the 50 and 100 freestyle, Persinger placing first in the 100 breaststroke and second in 50 free, and Maddy Rymer was third in 200 individual medley. The Clippers' medley relay team was second behind Tabb.
Grafton's girls and Tabb's boys were among the Bay Rivers teams that qualified for next weekend's Group AA state tournament in Christiansburg.
