If the Norfolk Admirals squeeze into the AHL playoffs this season, they'll owe a large debt to goaltender Frederik Andersen.
Yet again Saturday night, Andersen was a great Dane in a key game. He made 41 saves and was named the No. 1 star in a 2-0 victory over Syracuse before 6,706 at Norfolk Scope Arena, completing a two-game sweep of the Crunch.
Syracuse, many of whose connections contributed to the Admirals' Calder Cup triumph last season as a Tampa Bay affiliate, has lost three in a row to Norfolk after winning their first four clashes.
Sami Vatanen put the Admirals ahead 1-0 in the second period, and John Mitchell scored 4:52 into the final period. No. 2 star Devante Smith-Pelly assisted on both goals.
The Admirals, in their first season with Anaheim Ducks affiliation, remained two points behind eighth-place Hershey in the Eastern Conference and pulled to within three points of seventh-place Connecticut. Eight East teams will make the playoffs.
