The Norfolk Admirals (12-13-1-0) scored two first-period goals on power plays Friday night and held on to beat Albany 2-1 before 4,041 at Scope in the first of a two-game AHL series.
Goals by Devante Smith-Pelly and Patrick Maroon gave the Admirals a 2-0 edge.
Matt Anderson scored with 26 seconds left for the Devils (9-10-0-6) to spoil a shutout by Igor Bobkov, who made 35 saves for the victory.
The Devils, who were 0-for-10 on power plays, are coached by Admirals Hall of Famer Rick Kowalsky.
Ex-Admirals named all-star captains
A pair of former Admirals were named captains for the AHL all-star festivities Jan. 28 in Providence, R.I.
