Principal John Bailey is leaving Bethel High School for a job in Chesapeake as director of school plants and facilities.
He's spent his 20-year career in Hampton City Schools, including the last seven as Bethel's principal. In an email about his move, Bailey told me that he'll miss his colleagues, but that "it is time for a new adventure." His last day is August 31.
Bailey will be replaced by Ralph Saunders, who has been principal of Kraft Elementary since 2006. Saunders has worked at Bethel before, serving as assistant principal from 2000-2006.
The marquee outside of Bethel High School notes the change with a sign that welcomes Saunders and offers "best wishes" to Bailey.
With Bailey's departure, all four of the city's high schools are under new leadership for 2012-2013. Read my post here about the principal shuffle for the upcoming school year.
Tarrant Elementary is also getting a new principal - John Elling. He previously served as an assistant principal at Machen Elementary and at Armstrong Elementary.
