The Virginia State Police responded to a multi-vehicle accident involving a Trooper on Interstate 264 at Newtown Road in Norfolk at approximately 5:58 p.m., according to a news release.
Virginia State Trooper A. P. Leigh was traveling in the westbound lanes pacing a violator for speeding, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said.
Approaching a hill crest, the violator made a sudden lane change due to stopped traffic in the lane, Anaya said. Leigh was unable to stop or maneuver around the stopped traffic and struck a vehicle from behind, causing a chain reaction involving six other vehicles, Anaya said.
Leigh and another driver were transported to Norfolk Sentara with minor injuries, the news release said.
The accident is still under investigation by the Virginia State Police.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
