Newsweek's 2012 list of America's Best High Schools includes fewer local schools than usual - only two York County schools made the list.
Tabb High School is listed at 533 and Grafton High School is 929 on the list of the best 1,000 public high schools in the nation. They are among 29 Virginia schools that made the list.
The rankings were released Sunday, May 20 and will be in Newsweek's May 28 print edition.
Rankings are based on data including the graduation rate, college matriculation, the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests taken per student and the average score, average SAT/ACT scores, and the number of AP courses offered per student.
The list lacks any Newport News schools, despite the district's strong showing on the list in previous years. In 2008, all five public high schools in the district made the list. Read about that here.
