Police identify man found dead on Boulder Drive in Newport News

UPDATE 08/18:  Newport News police have identified the body of a man found dead outside an apartment complex on Boulder Drive Sunday as 31-year-old David Duke Sims of Chesapeake.

Sims, of the 1200 block of Triple Crown Court, was shot, Newport News police spokesman Lou Thurston said in a statement Monday.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, he said.

The body of a young man was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Boulder Drive early this morning following reports of shots fired, Newport News police said.

Police said they received a call of shots fired around 3:30 a.m. and responded to the 300 block of Boulder Drive, where they found the body of a man in his early 20s.

The victim was found in the driver's seat of a vehicle. He is not yet identified and will be transported to the medical examiner's office to determine cause of death.

Police said they have no information on a suspect, but a black male dressed in black clothing was seen running from the area.

Boulder Drive is off of Warwick Boulevard, a few miles south of Fort Eustis Boulevard.
