Inside the PD: Nate Matheson named Co-Player of Year in Monitor-Merrimac baseball

Kecoughtan pitcher Nate Matheson and Western Branch outfielder Zach Rutherford, both Old Dominion baseball signees, were named Co-Players of the Year in the Monitor-Merrimac Conference 2.

Matheson is 5-4 this season but has taken some hard-luck losses, as his ERA of 2.08 would indicate. He has struck out 81 and walked 18 in 60 1/3 innings.

At the plate, he is hitting .426 with two home runs and 11 RBI, which includes two walk-offs.

Rutherford is 8-2 on the mound this season and is batting .622 in conference games with 13 RBI.

Woodside and Grassfield led with four first-team selections. The Wolverines placed pitcher Drew Moyer, second baseman Roman Degnan, shortstop Seth Woodard, and outfielder Austin Rouleau on the first team. Kecoughtan's Robbie Edwards was first-team utility.
