Hurricane Irene hasn't reached Virginia's shores yet but she's already claimed a fair number of musical performances. Shows by Pat Benatar, Big Joe & the Dynaflows and Donavon Frankenreiter have been kicked to the curb.
Here's the list as of 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25:
-- East Coast Surfing Championships has canceled all beach activities, musical entertainment and non-surfing sporting events for Saturday and Sunday, including Saturday's concert by Donavon Frankenreiter.
-- The Saturday Summer Street Fest scheduled to take place in downtown Hampton on Saturday, Aug. 27 and featuring music from Vinyl Headlights, has been canceled due to the approaching storm. The series will return for the final block party of the season Sept. 3. Slapwater will perform at that event.
-- Norfolk Festevents announced that events happening Friday, Aug. 26 through Sunday, Aug. 28 will be postponed due to the predicted weather. Events include a TGIF concert and the Latino Music Festival on Saturday — both at Town Point Park — and a Big Bands on the Bay concert Sunday at Ocean View.
-- The Pat Benatar concerts scheduled for Aug. 27-28 at Busch Gardens Williamsburg have been canceled. Rescheduled performance dates have not been announced.
-- A show by Big Joe & The Dynaflows set for Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Jewish Mother in Virginia Beach has been postponed until October. Friday's Felice Brothers show was still scheduled to happen as scheduled, said promoter Jason Bruner.
-- A concert by singer-songwriter Ron Fetner at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library in Virginia Beach scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 27, has been canceled. The show was organized by Tidewater Friends of Folk Music.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
