Hoss's Deli revs up live music menu with Session Rockers, Jackass Flats

Hoss's Deli in Newport News has been serving cold beer and quality bar food for years. It's also been a dependable location for live rock music. In the recent era, though, something new is happening at Hoss's.

Its revved up -- and broadening -- its musical ambitions. The motorcycle-friendly pub is now featuring quality original music from throughout the region every Thursday night. Reggae, bluegrass, indie rock and funk are being presented on a stage previously best known for cover bands and hard rock.

Thursday night shows start at 9 p.m. and cover is always $5.

Here's what's headed for Hoss's, as reported by the pub's William Johnson:

Feb. 9: Octopus (jam band)

Feb. 16: Thin Air Rising (reggae)

Feb. 23: Red Rattles (garage blues)

March 1: The Shack Band (funk)

March 8: Dharma Initiative (reggae-flavored indie rock)

March 15: No BS Brass Band (funky brass)

March 22: Session Rockers (reggae)

March 29: Jackass Flats (bluegrass-rock)
