CHESAPEAKEFeb. 27. Constance Stepney (55) and grandson Terrell Stepney (19).

Police went to address on Ida Street and found Terrell suffering from drug overdose. Found Constance inside, dead at the scene. Terrell pronounced dead 2/28 at hospital. Police determined that the grandmother had given her autistic son a lethal overdose of prescription medication, then taken it herself. Murder-suicide.

April 15. Mason Jones (16) and Joshua Compton (17).

Both students at Oscar Smith High School, shot to death by intruder at Compton family's residence on Rowland Avenue just after midnight. No suspect info.

April 30. James Arthur Ash (19, Norfolk).

Found dead in the backyard of an apartment complex on Grady Street. No cause of death given, but it is being investigated as a homicide. Ash was wanted for Norfolk's 11th homicide of the year. No suspects.

May 22. Darryl Washington (BM, 37, Chesapeake).

Found unresponsive in front yard on Plow Lane around 11:25 p.m. Taken to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead. Gunshots had been reported in the area. No suspect info.

June 1. Tione Vincent (BM, 30, Chesapeake).

Shot to death in a minivan after being abducted in Norfolk. After police pursuit, minivan crashed in Chesapeake, and a shootout with police ensued in which an officer was struck but survived. Christopher White (BM, 26, Norfolk) was shot to death by police. Willie Simmons (BM, 20, Chesapeake) and Dedrion Short (BM, 31, Norfolk) were arrested after a manhunt. Both are charged with murder, abduction and attempted capital murder of a police officer. White was later determined to have been erroneously released from custody because of a clerical error. Arrest.

June 3. Jamica Bynum (25, Chesapeake).

Found dead in townhouse on Creekside Crescent by her family. Her boyfriend, Malik Akil Griffin (BM, 26, Chesapeake), is charged with murder and firearms offenses. Arrest.

June 11. Carly Sawyer (5).

Taken to CHKD unresponsive on June 10, dies the next day. Medical examiner cites blunt force trauma, starvation, ligature marks and medical neglect. Her father, Joshua Sawyer (WM, 26) is charged with second-degree murder, and her stepmother, Brandy Sawyer (WF, 21) is charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors say they beat, bound and starved the child and put her in cardboard boxes while trying to potty train her. Arrest.

June 15. Christopher Bailey (22, Portsmouth).

Shot at a location on Kemet Road in Chesapeake around 11:30 p.m. Died in hospital 6/17. Suspects described as three to five black males, between 16-21 years of age, with white t-shirts pulled over the lower parts of their faces. No suspect info.

June 28. Darius Taylor (23, Chesapeake)>

Shot to death at apartment complex on Gilmerton Road where he lived. Taylor and another man were shot around 10:22 p.m. by two black males who fled on foot. Taylor died around 3 a.m. at Sentara Norfolk General. No suspect info.

Aug. 23. Rafie Jones (22, no permanent address).

Found shot to death at location on Linster Street early in the morning. No suspect info.

Oct. 28. Alayah Mahone (BF, 3, Norfolk).

Picked up at residence on Clover Meadows Drive, taken to Maryview unresponsive with head trauma. Died Nov. 1 at CHKD. Leon Lamar Surgeon (38, Chesapeake), who was caring for the child while her mom was at work, initially charged with felony child abuse and aggravated malicious wounding, later upgraded to murder. Arrest.

Nov. 2. Michael Henry Callender Jr. (22, Chesapeake).

Found shot to death at location on Oliver Avenue. Hours later, early morning 11/3, police arrested Dominique Lavon Collins (BM, 18, Chesapeake) and charged him with murder. Arrest.

FRANKLIN

Jan. 23. Brad Harris (26/27, WM).Shot to death in his home in apparent burglary around 7 a.m. Shot apparently fired from outside the home. Two men were arrested after vehicle pursuit, but it was not immediately clear if they were connected to murder. On 5/18, Rockne Butler (BM, 39, Pantego NC) and Dennis Leon Blount (BM, 29, Washington NC) were charged with first-degree murder and other offenses. Arrest.

HAMPTONJanuary 24. Damon Andre Smooth (29 BM).

Shot to death in parking lot of Tide Mill Shopping Center around 2 a.m., just after getting off work. His ex-girlfriend, Christine Lynn Burrage (32 WF) was arrested a few minutes later in her vehicle. Arrest.

March 27. Johnnie Lee Purdie (20, Hampton).

Shot to death while fleeing a robbery attempt on himself and two others in the 300 block of Ireland Street at 2:30 p.m. Suspects identified as Adam Abdullah Mohammad Brewer (21, BM, Hampton) and Evan Francis Stephens (19, H). Stephens arrested on 4/28 in Massachusetts. Brewer remains at large. Arrest.

April 16. Travis Johnathan Weisenberger (22 Hampton).

Found on a houseboat at the end of Harris Creek Road (Marina Cove Boat Basin) with gunshot wounds around 1 a.m. Transported to local hospital and pronounced dead. Weisenberger broke the glass door to gain entrance and was shot by "male subject who was staying there." On 5/28, police and commonwealth's attorney ruled it a justifiable homicide and said no charges would be filed. Justified.

Aug. 9. Bryan Latre Carolina (29, Hampton).

Sshot to death in parking lot of apartment complex on Briarfield Road. Found around 6:46 p.m., pronounced dead at hospital around 7:32 p.m. Shot in back as he flees from three males who approached as he exited his car. Andra Gabrael Green (BM, 23, NN) arrested and charged with murder. Jonathan Rouser (BM, 23, NN) and Lavelle Ozwan Clyburn (BM, 14, NN) arrested on 8/17. Arrest.

Sept. 22. Joel Peterson (BM, 23, Hampton).

Shot multiple times by three black males outside apartment on North Pembroke Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Jemain Antonio Bernard (BM, 25, Hampton) arrested on 9/24. Montea Lamont Davis (BM, 25, Hampton) identified as suspect, later arrested in Java, Va., on 10/8. Christopher J. Harrell (BM, NN, 20) arrested 10/11. Arrest.

Sept. 25. Miles Burnell Cross (BM, 21, Hampton).

Shot to death after verbal altercation with acquaintance on 81st Street. Cross' body was dumped in a wooded area in Suffolk, near Collins Avenue, where it was discovered on Oct. 2. Suspect is identified as Barry Eugene Moore Jr. (BM, 21, Hampton). Arrested in Louisiana in December. Arrest.

Oct. 6. Kenneth Bradford Jackson (30, Hampton).

Shot as he walked to his vehicle outside of his father's house on West Weaver Road around 8:30 p.m. Died at hospital. No suspect info.

Oct. 26. Jason Michael Burch (BM, 20, Hampton).

Shot to death in vehicle on Grimes Road around 7:43 p.m. Dead at the scene. Suspects identified as Micah Emmanuel Boyd (BM, 26, Hampton) and Antwan Jermaine Haskins (BM, 21, Hampton). Both men arrested over Halloween weekend, but charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence. Charges dropped.

Nov. 20. Bruce Wright (26, Hampton).

Shot several times in lower torso at location on Seward Drive. Suspect was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not immediately believed to be life-threatening, but at least one of the wounds became infected, and he died on Dec. 6. Suspect is identified as Corey Leshawn Ballard (BM, 34, Hampton). He remains at large as a fugitive. Suspect.

Nov. 29. Julius Omar Bartley (M, 28, NN).

Shot to death just after midnight during a physical altercation in the backyard at a party on Mitchell Road. Bartley died around 3 a.m. at Riverside Regional Medical Center. No suspect info.

Dec. 21. Charlene Stephany Scott (BF, 28, Hampton) and Antoine Larosa Fulgham (BM, 34, Hampton).

Found shot to death in a home on Michigan Drive just after midnight. It is an apparent murder-suicide, with Fulgham shooting his girlfriend and then shooting himself. Murder-suicide.

MATHEWS COUNTY

June 2. Matthew R. Roberts (WM, 21, Hudgins).Shot to death just after midnight. Single bullet wound to the chest. Died at the scene. Leatrice V. Croswell (WM, 61, Mathews) arrested and charged with murder. Croswell is the father of Roberts'girlfriend and shot him after an argument among the three of them. Police say alcohol was a factor in the incident. Arrest.

NEWPORT NEWSFeb. 12. Caitlin Elizabeth Trask (21 WF Navy USS Ike).

Shot to death in Navy housing unit on 32nd Street around 3 p.m. Darren William Mackie (22 WM Navy USS Kearsarge) charged with murder. MySpace correspondence suggests they had been a couple in the fall. Charge later reduced to involuntary manslaughter. Mackie says he didn't know the gun was loaded. Pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter, sentenced to 10 years.

Feb. 15. Antonio Tavarus Davis (22 BM).

Shot several times in the head, found around 2:10 a.m. lying on the porch of his residence in the 3700 block of Chestnut Avenue. Pronounced at the scene. No suspect info.

March 13. Louis Edward Joseph Jr. (40).

Found dead on the back porch of his home on Clipper Drive. His girlfriend came home at 4:40 p.m. and found him dead. Her 5-year-old son was inside the home and safe. The front door had been forced open. "Cold hit" on national DNA data bank results in the arrest of Joseph James Benson (BM, 28, Massachusetts). Arrest.

March 20. Demario Dontae Hardy (22, Newport News).

Found naked except for his socks on the 5300 block of York Circle. Police say he was robbed and forced to strip. Transported to hospital and pronounced dead. Raymond Ernest Brown (20, Newport News) and Alfonso Delmont Sheppard (29) arrested and charged with murder. Sheppard believed to be the shooter. A 16-year-old was arrested but no probable cause was found to go forward. Arrests.

March 26. Demetrius L. Hunter (17, NN).

Shot in the head as he stood with a group of friends in the 600 block of Ridley Circle around 6:30 p.m. Hunter died on March 30. Cortez Bumphus (16, H) shot in the torso but survived. No suspect info.

April 2. Corri Damien Johnson (32, NN).

Shot in his vehicle during an apparent drug transaction around 3 p.m. near Traverse Road and J. Clyde Morris. He was shot in the upper torso and taken to the emergency room by his friends. He died around 4 p.m. Police arrested Justin Keith Nelms (17, NN, tried as adult) and charged him with murder. A second person fled the scene on foot. Second suspect, Elih Kortez Harris (BM, 18, NN) arrested 9/15 and charged as accessory before the fact. Arrests.

May 16. Dwanne Marcelle Martin Sr. (29, NN).

Shot in the head and abdomen on 35th Street around 2 a.m. and died at a local hospital. No suspect info.

May 17. Andre Tyrone Horton (21, NN), Julius Johnson (18, NN).

Horton, Johnson and two other 18-year-olds shot around 12:30 a.m. on 34th Street. Horton died at the scene, and Johnson died at the hospital. Two other victims, Edwin Powers and Tyrell McCoy, survived. Victims uncooperative, but witnesses say four black males in a car rode by, then two got out and started shooting. First identified suspect, Kevin Ashby (BM, 21, NN) surrendered to police May 19 but charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence. No further suspect info.

May 17. Carl MacAurthur Joseph (30, Hampton).

Shot in abdomen outside Game's Market on Harpersville Road around 1 p.m. Died at local hospital. Was approached by man in the parking lot and shot once. No suspect info.

June 28. Angela Morrison (30, NN).

Shot to death by her estranged husband, Scott Morrison (31, NN) who then killed himself. The couple's two children were at the man's home on Frigate Drive, and he killed his wife and himself when she came to pick them up around 5 p.m. Murder-suicide.

July 9. Corey Deon Rogers (29, NN).

Shot to death in the parking lot of his apartment complex on Treasure Court. He and two other people were in the parking lot around 9 p.m. when two black males (late teens, early 20s, dreadlocks) approached them. During the confortation, Rogers was shot in the upper body and died later that night at the hospital. No suspect info.

July 11. Edgar Montiel (22, NN).

Stabbed to death and another man injured in altercation at Wellington Apartments on Forest Drive. Victor Hugo Rodriguez-Garcia (21, NN, illegal from Honduras) arrested and charged with murder. Arrest. The men were acquaintances.

July 17. Lindsey Coleman (22, NN).

Shot to death at 45th Street and Madison Avenue. Coleman was shot in the afternoon and died around 8:30 p.m. at hospital. Suspect Chris Ronele McCright (BM, 28, NN) was arrested two days later after a standoff at a motel. The two men knew each other. Arrest.

July 19. Charles McLain (21, NN) and Terrence Kindred (35, NN).

Both shot to death at Aqueduct Apartments on Warwick near Colony. Kindred shot multiple times and found on Warwick. McLain shot once in the neck and found at Aqueduct Apartments. Both died at hospital. Not clear if they knew each other. No suspect info.

July 20. Michael Reeder (BM, 33, NN).

Left his home on 18th Street around 10 p.m. and showed up on Denbigh Boulevard with a gunshot wound to the abdomen around 5 a.m. Police don't know where or when he was shot, and he was evasive and gave conflicting stories. Reeder died 7/26. No suspect info.

July 31. Jeffrey Devon Jackson (BM, 17, NN).

Shot to death shortly after midnight. Pronounced dead at the scene on the street in 400 block of Manor Road. No suspect info.

Sept. 30. John Robert Gibson (51, NN).

Found shot to death in his residence on Antrim Drive. Dead at the scene. Two juveniles, both 17-year-old males from Newport News, arrested on 10/2. Identified as Joe Ashley Jr. and Jaynerio Camm. Arrests.

Nov. 4. Christian Kendrick Hatch (29, NN).

Shot in his apartment at Mariner's Landing on Catina Way in Denbigh. Died at Riverside. Another man in the apartment (19) shot in foot. Shots appear to have come from outside the apartment. No suspect info.

Nov. 15. Gale Andrea Perch (F, 42, NN).

Shot to death in a car in an apartment complex parking lot after a long night celebrating her birthday. Another person in the car was shot but recovered. Two others in the car were not cooperative with police. No suspect info.

Dec. 12. Jerome Houston (17, NN).

Shot in lower back at location on Lassiter Court. Taken to hospital and pronounced dead. No info on circumstances, but drugs and alcohol were found at the scene. Suspect Arnez Lenard Boyd (16, BM, NN) arrested a few days later. Arrest.

Dec. 15. Lafayette Bailey (23, NN).

Shot to death in trailer home on Spur Drive (Warwick Trailer Homes park) by two men who came there looking for drugs. His fiancée and their two small children were not harmed. No suspect info.

Dec. 15. Tynesha Barksdale (BF, 34, NN).

Shot to death in apparent domestic argument while her two daughters hide in the bathroom. Police find the woman dead in the bedroom of her home on Turlington Road. Aaron Lynell Harris (BM, 39, NN), identified as her boyfriend, was charged with murder. Arrest.

NORFOLKJan. 4. Charles Humphrey (18 BM, Maury HS athlete).

Found shot to death in Park Place, near 34th and Colonial. Tarek Z. Cherry (BM, 17) arrested on 1/9, more arrests anticipated. Cherry was certified to be tried as an adult, but the charges with nolle prossed on 7/16. Charges withdrawn/no suspect info.

Jan. 31. DeShawn Stephenson (30).

Found shot in his home on Fenchurch Street shortly after midnight. Transported to hospital and died. No suspect info.

Feb. 7. Jamual Westry (BM, 31, Chesapeake).

Shot to death at location on 800 block of Princess Anne Road at 7:20 a.m. Police identify suspect at Ivory Terrell Marshall (BM, Norfolk) on 2/8. He surrendered to police the next day. Marshall pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter on 9/24.

Feb. 13. Juan A. Lanzarin Morales (28 Norfolk).

Shot to death with another unidentified male around 7 p.m. after an argument in East Ocean View. Suspect quickly identified as Juan Badillo-Parra (33 Hispanic male). Suspect sought.

March 8. Latonya Dickens (24, Norfolk).

Shot to death in her apartment. Police arrested her boyfriend, Terrance Wright (24, Norfolk). Dickens and Wright were both in the U.S. Navy. (Wright's sister is Nokisha Frank 252-375-1595). Pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter (10 years, 8 suspended).

March 10. Lacey Gardner Bellamy (57, Norfolk).

Stabbed to death around 11:30 p.m. in rooming house on 2400 block of Colonial. Pronounced dead at the scene. Melvin Thomas Warren (64 BM Norfolk) arrested at the scene and charged. Both men were acquaintances who lived at rooming house. Arrest.

March 16. Evon Kim Lewis (34, Norfolk).

Shot at ex-wife's home in 1000 block of Charlney Avenue around 12:15 a.m. Pronounced dead at Sentara Norfolk General at 12:44 a.m. No suspect info.

March 19. Brian Carter (22 Suffolk).

Shot during a robbery while he sat in a car on Bank Street. Died March 20. Police found Brighton Alderman (18 Norfolk) and Marlon Sanders (19 Norfolk) a block away. Sanders killed in shootout with police. Alderman charged with murder. Alderman told police the robbery was part of an ongoing gang-related cycle of incidents. One suspect killed, other arrested.

March 21. Anthony Desean Sanderlin (25 Norfolk).

Found at 3 a.m. near his home in the 7400 block of Fenner Street. Pronounced dead at the hospital. He was shot 17 times. Kelsey Helvenston (17, Norfolk) will be tried as an adult for second-degree murder. A juvenile male was charged with accessory after the fact but the charge was dropped. Arrest.

March 22. Juan Carlos Ovalle-Peralda (26, Chesapeake).

Shot to death in Waterside parking garage after a minor traffic accident. Another man in his car shot, taken to the hospital. Reginald E. Royals (24, Va. Beach) arrested and charged with murder. Two other people in Royals' vehicle initially taken into custody, unclear if they were charged. Ovalle displayed a gun during the dispute, and Royals says he shot in self defense. Convicted of lesser charge, released after time spent in prison awaiting trial.

March 31. Johnie L.Silver (22, Norfolk).

Shot to death near the entrance to an apartment complex on Greenleaf Drive near Campostella Road around 5 p.m. Police identify James Arthur Ash (19, Norfolk) as suspect. Ash was found dead in Chesapeake on 4/30. Suspect found dead.

April 10. Jerome Tyrone Blakley (20, Norfolk).

Shot to death around noon on West 23rd Street. No suspect info.

April 23. Kenyon Woolard (35, Norfolk). Pronounced dead at the scene in an apartment on East Little Creek Road around 3 a.m. Police found him when they responded to reports of an argument and gunshots. No suspect info.

April 25. Jonathan McCalister (23, Norfolk).Shot to death at bus stop on Monticello Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Pronounced dead at hospital. Kevin Mirpuri (24, Norfolk) arrested at the scene and charged with murder. Arrest.

April 25. Katrina Wilson (42, Norfolk).Stabbed to death in her driveway on Evelyn T. Butts Road. Pronounced dead at hospital. Homeless man James Alexander Moore, an acquaintance of Wilson's who had stalked her in the past, arrested on 4/28 and charged with murder. Moore was later determined to have been erroneously released from custody because of a clerical error. Arrest.

April 25. Frederick O'Neal West III (68, Norfolk).Died at city-owned apartment complex for senior citizens around noon. Originally believed to be cardiac arrest, but police deemed it suspicious and opened a homicide investigation. Michelle Scott (37, Chesapeake) arrested and charged with murder. No details provided. Arrest.

April 28. Andrew E. Lodge (20, Norfolk).Found shot to death around 7:30 p.m. outside of Delvecchios' restaurant on Virginian Drive. Terry R. Robinson (19, Norfolk) arrested and charged with murder. Arrest.

April 28. Marion Alonzo Wheeler (90, Norfolk).Was assaulted, along with his wife, during a home invasion. He died of his injuries on 5/2. Brian Jordan, arrested for a similar break-in, is called a person of interest but has not been charged in Wheeler's death. Pleads guilty to murder on 11/5.

May 9. Alton Copeland (BM, 25, Norfolk) and Ricardo Spencer (BM, 30, Norfolk). Shot to death on Vincent Avenue just before midnight. Third victim, juvenile male, injured but survived. No suspect info.

May 14. Travis Matos (WM, 26, Norfolk).Shot to death early morning outside residence on Radnor Road in Bayview. Police identify Rolland Doyle (WM, 31, Norfolk) as suspect. Doyle arrested 5/21 in motel room in Northumberland County, charged with second-degree murder. Arrest.

May 25. Jason Brandon Elliott (38).Shot at a location on Courtney Avenue around 9 p.m. Makes his way inside an apartment building, collapses in stairwell. Transported to hospital and pronounced dead. No suspect info.

May 27--Andre Lamont Holloway (BM, 20, Hampton) shot to death on Ballview Avenue shortly after midnight. Apparent robbery attempt. Dead at the scene. Former Phoebus football player and '06 honor roll student, left CNU after one year. Brian Snowden (BM, 22, Norfolk) identified as suspect. Suspect sought.

June 6. Margarita Rivera (62).Found dead in home on Larkin Street after placing a call for medical attention. Rivera was stabbed to death. No suspect info.

June 7. Brian Joyner (24, Va Beach).Found shot to death at an apartment complex on Alexander Street in the afternoon. Suspect identified as Martin Barnes (BM, 22, Norfolk). Barnes turned himself in 6/8. Arrest.

June 11. Three men force their way into a motel room on Military Highway around 2:15 a.m. and exchange gunshots with the two people in the room. Two of the intruders and one of the people in the room are hit. One of the intruders, Dante Cooley (22, Va Beach) died at the scene. Another of the intruders, Trevor L. Pauley (20, Norfolk) died early on the morning of 6/12 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. No immediate charges filed. Police say it was an attempted robbery that had nothing to do with drugs. Police still looking for third intruder, who fled the scene. On 10/14, police identify Antonio Alphonso Lee (BM, 27) as possible third suspect in the break-in. In September, prosecutors rule the occupants of the motel room were justified in shooting the intruders. No charges filed. Justified.

July 2. Lamar Woodard (no info available).Stabbed to death at location on Bellamy Avenue late at night. Three men in argument. One man stabs the other two. One victim dies just after midnight at Sentara Norfolk General. Police identify Mark Van Kersey (BM, 35, Portsmouth) as the suspect. He is arrested on 7/27. Arrest.

July 25. Udraka Brown (BM, 26, Norfolk).Shot to death on Melon Street around 7:15 p.m. Syron D. Rogers (BM, 32, Norfolk) arrested 7/26 in Suffolk. Arrest.

Aug. 14. Ronald Noles (52, Norfolk).Shot to death during robbery at Bay Inn on Ocean View Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Craig William Brown (48, Newport News) arrested on Sept. 2 and charged him with murder. Arrest.

Aug. 26. Quawsheen Stewart (BM, 21, Norfolk) and Jervonte Barnes (BM, 20, Norfolk).Shot and killed in 2400 block of Azalea Gardens Road around 10:40 p.m. Stewart pronounced dead at the scene. Barnes died the next day at Norfolk General. No suspect info.

Sept. 4. Adam Terrell Harris (21).Found shot to death in parking lot of Value Inn motel on North Military Highway just after midnight. Dead at the scene. No details of how he got there. No suspect info.

Sept. 13. Troy Booker (22, BM, Norfolk).Found shot to death around 9 p.m. at outdoor location on Fort Worth Avenue. On 9/18, suspect identified as Alton Joe "A.J." Lacy. Entered guilty plea 1/21/2010.

Sept. 15. Vernon Evans (BM, 23, Norfolk) and Stephanie Stott (WF, 21, Norfolk).Found shot to death in Evans' apartment on Bancker Street. No suspect info.

Sept. 26--Israel Rivera (Hispanic, 20s, Norfolk) shot to death at location on Lisa Drive. Dead at the scene. Robbery is motive. Another man suffered minor gunshot wound to the hand. Two juvenile males arrested and charged on 9/30. Arrests.

Sept. 30--Monta Lamar McNeal (BM, 26, Norfolk) shot to death inside a car on Peronne Avenue near Shoop Park. Two females sustain injuries that were not life-threatening. Three children in the car were unharmed On 10/14, police identified Rishad L. Josey (BM, 24) as a suspect in the homicide. Suspect.

Oct. 5--Symone An-Nafi (BF, 1, Norfolk) dies at hospital after being removed from home on Barney Street by police and paramedics. No cause of death released. Investigation reveals death to be a homicide. Police arrest her grandfather, Naeem An-Nafi (BM, 36, Norfolk), who lived at the same residence. Arrest.

Oct. 7--Robert Cornell Scales (35, Norfolk) shot to death at his home on Cape Henry Avenue. His roommate, Taure Jacyl Watford (BM, 49, Norfolk) is arrested and charged with murder. Arrest.

Oct. 28--Ladaidrius Osric Batton (BM, Norfolk, 2 months) taken unresponsive from family's home on Early Street to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and pronounced dead. No cause of death has been released, but on 11/16 police announced that the autopsy had determined it to be a murder, and the boy's father, Ladaidrius Markeese Batton (BM, 21, Norfolk) was arrested. Arrest.

Dec. 13--Vernon Lee Battle (42, Norfolk) stabbed to death at or near his home on Middle Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Calvin Alonzo Martin (BM, 29, Norfolk) arrested later that day and charged with murder. Arrest.

Dec. 22--Nathaniel Regan (WM, 33, Norfolk) shot to death on Shoop Avenue around 3 p.m. Police arrest Lamontez Jones (BM, 33, Norfolk) later that day. Arrest.

PORTSMOUTH

1. January 1 – Dwayne Alonzo Turner (49 BM) killed by blunt force trauma to the head in a garage of a neighbor's residence on Neville Street. Neighbor Garry Darnell Sanders (51 BM) arrested later that day. Saunders said Turner was killed after argument. Arrest.2. January 13 – Jerrell Cordell Clifton (37 BM) found shot to death on 1700 block of Lansing Avenue. No suspect info.3. March 19 -- Marc Shields (53) severely beaten in altercation on Richmond Avenue. Died of injuries two days later. Mark Anthony Clark (BM, 36, Portsmouth) indicted for second-degree murder on May 8 and arrested May 11. Arrest.4. April 1 – Mark A. Tyler (40, Portsmouth) found dead in his home on Washington Street. Body reportedly found in a freezer. No cause of death announced immediately. Ernest Louis Elliott (28 Portsmouth) arrested on April 3 and charged with first-degree murder. Arrest.5. May 9 -- Franklin Miller (34, BM, Smithfield) shot to death in the 1700 block of Atlanta Avenue around 9 p.m. No suspect info.6. June 10--Braxton K. Cuffee (21, Portsmouth) shot to death at a location on Marshall Street around 2 a.m. Another victim, a teen, taken to the hospital in serious condition. Michael Derrick Edwards (BM, 18, Portsmouth) charged with murder and other charges. Arrest.7. June 14--Eric Monte Huckoby (23, BM, Portsmouth) shot to death at a location on 6th Street near Lincoln, around 3 p.m. Police identify suspect as Robert Lee Riddick (BM, 21, Portsmouth). Riddick turned himself in on 6/17. Arrest.8. June 24--William L. Riddick (23, Portsmouth) found shot to death in back yard of residence on the 1400 block of Lansing Avenue. No suspect info.9. June 25--Kevin B. Vass (36, BM, Portsmouth) shot to death near his home on Oak Leaf Place around 8:30 a.m. Police identify Eric Roundtree (39, BM, Elizabeth City NC) as suspect. Roundtree turned himself in to police. Arrest.10. July 7--William W. Pelton (WM, 22, Portsmouth) shot to death in a Honda Civic after a collision with a tow truck around 3 a.m. in the 4800 block of Portsmouth Boulevard. Died at hospital. Matthew B. Andersen (WM, 29, Portsmouth) arrested at the scene. Police say Andersen chased him down, slammed his tow truck into Pelton's car to pin him inside, then shot him in the face. Pelton's mother told TV that Pelton was having an affair with Andersen's wife. Arrest.11. Aug. 2 -- Tony M. Woolbright (16, Portsmouth) shot to death at location on Gateway Drive just before 10 p.m. Three juvenile males shot. The other two victims were not seriously hurt. Willita C. Demby (BF, 25, Portsmouth) arrested three days later and charged with murder. Arrest.12. and 13. Aug. 26--Malcolm Moore (BM, 16, Portsmouth) and Taquan Bryant (BM, 14, Portsmouth) shot to death, pronounced dead at the scene on Turnpike Road around 8:45 p.m. Third victim, an 18-year-old male Portsmouth resident, transported to hospital in critical condition. Suspect identified as Sidney L. Bowman (BM, 19, Portsmouth). Suspect.13. See above.14. Oct. 3--Arthur William Smith Jr. (41, Portsmouth) found shot to death in his car in the 700 block of Broad Street. No suspect info.15. Oct. 5--Damon P. Staton (23, Portsmouth) shot to death on Madison Street around 11:30 p.m. Died at hospital. No suspect info.16. Oct. 26--Dominique L. Mills (BM, 20, Chesapeake) shot at location on Two Oaks Drive around 6:47 p.m. Found outside residence. Witnesses said there was an altercation before the gunshots. Pronounced dead at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. No suspect info.17. Nov. 1--Maurice Antonio Holley (45, BM, Portsmouth) shot to death, found lying in the street on Prentis Avenue. Dead at the scene. Suspect identified as Gary Lorenzo Haile (BM, 45, Portsmouth). Suspect.

SUFFOLK

1. March 28 -- Paul Bamberg (53) and Jeanette Brabrand (57) found shot to death in their home on North Broad Street. Brabrand in the bedroom, Bamberg in the study. Police determined it was a murder-suicide, with Brabrand killing Bamberg and then herself. Murder-suicide.2. June 21 -- Ernest S. Root (38, Suffolk) shot to death while apparently attempting to burglarize J&L Food Mart on Whaleyville Road around 4 a.m. Police report says that the store owner responded to the alarm and shot Root through the window of the store. No immediate charges filed. Justified.3. July 8--John Price Jr. (50, Suffolk) shot to death around 4 a.m. while delivering the Virginian-Pilot on his route. Shot on Brewer Avenue, right near police precinct on Washington Street. Found just outside idling van. No suspect info.4. Aug. 12--Elizabeth Newby (F, Suffolk, 83) pushed to the ground by disgruntled 58-year-old woman who thought Newby was cutting in line at the Senior Luau at the National Guard Armory. Newby died two weeks later, and medical examiner determined she died of complications from the broken hip she sustained when she was pushed down. Prosecutor is weighing charges.5. Sept. 4--Matthew Stephenson (41, Jacksonville Fla., Army, Fort Lee) shot multiple times inside residence on Nansemond Point Drive. Transported to Sentara Norfolk General and pronounced dead. Police determined Stephenson and suspect argued, and suspect went to car to retrieve gun. Timothy Wayne Sanders (Chesapeake) returned to residence and turned himself in to police. Arrest.6. Oct. 17--Glenn Joe Bauwens (42, Suffolk) shot to death in road rage altercation around 9 p.m. on Eclipse Drive. Bauwens and passenger get out of vehicle to confront another driver near entrance to cemetery. Driver shoots both of them from inside vehicle. Both victims were unarmed. Bauwens died at hospital. Second man, Dennis W. Bailey, recovered. Chad Andrew Kinney (WM, 36, Carrollton) arrested at scene, charged with murder. Justified/self defense.7. Oct. 23-26--Cathy Moseley (27, Suffolk) was found stabbed to death after being reported missing by her husband. Body found in a vehicle in Isle of Wight County. Husband Darrel M. Moseley (BM, 32, Suffolk) charged with murder. Arrest.

VIRGINIA BEACH

1. Feb. 2 – Neal Eugene Williams (33, Chesapeake) shot to death during altercation at Virginia House of Comedy just after 1:30 a.m. Transported to hospital in private vehicle, pronounced dead. Altercation apparently followed the club's Super Bowl party. Markese Ventrell Costict (BM, 20, Norfolk) was identified as the suspect on 2/4 and turned himself in on 2/6. Arrest.2. Feb. 10 – Joshua D. Hagerman (WM, 5) stabbed to death and decapitated in his home on Sugar Creek Drive. His father, Joseph Henry Hagerman III (WM, 33) was arrested and charged with murder. He told WTKR that God told him to kill his son before the anti-Christ could take the boy's immortal soul. Hagerman found not guilty by reason of insanity (5/20). Not guilty by insanity.3. March 8 – Nicholas B. Hopwood (25, Chesapeake) stabbed to death in altercation at the MP Island Café on Holland Road around 3:30 a.m. (day of time change). Two other men shot in parking lot in continuation of altercation. Police seek one suspect in stabbing, another in shooting, not sure if they're connected. Between March 18-26, four people are charged with voluntary manslaughter: Daniel Nathaniel Harrison (31, VB), Romain Sion Beaumont (20, Norfolk), Michael Anthony Matthan (25, Jamaica), Keegan Kiplyn King (23, VB). Matthan pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was deported. Chares dropped against the other three, but prosecutors reserve the right to re-file. April 4 -- Eddie Lee Burnham (28, VB) shot to death in the street at Blackstone Trail and Bosco Court, near Lynnhaven Mall, around 3 a.m. Dead at the scene. Police responded to reports of a crowd, loud voices and gunshots. Tommy Lee Owens (27, Va. Beach) arrested and charged on April 10). Arrest.5. April 10--Isiah Jones (18, Va Beach, Cox High School senior) shot to death in car parking lot outside Lynnhaven Mall. Sheldon Andre Swilling (23 NN) arrested on 5/1 and charged with murder and robbery. Arrest.6. May 4-- Lakeira Jewell Calahan (11 months) taken to hospital unresponsive. Died on unknown date. Doctors cite "shaken baby syndrome." Uncle Stephen C. Calahan (BM, 23, Brinkley, Ark.) charged with second-degree murder. Arrest.7. May 28-- Bryant Michael Leary (20, Va Beach) stabbed during an altercation in a parking lot near the Oceanfront, at 22nd and Pacific, around 9:50 p.m. Darron Marques Cary (BM, 22, Va Beach) arrested nearby and charged with malicious wounding. Leary died on June 1, charges were upped to second-degree murder. Arrest.8. June 27--Dennis Johnson (25, Va. Beach) stabbed by his girlfriend during a domestic argument around 8:30 p.m. at her/their home on Sassafras Court in the Thalia section. He died on 6/27. Syrayra Wynn (BF, 27, Va. Beach) charged with first-degree murder. Arrest.9. July 31-- Jordan Ferebee (2-year-old boy, Norfolk) pronounced dead at CHKD from blunt force trauma to the abdomen. Investigation determined that the injuries were sustained at a residence on Wolfpack Court in Virginia Beach. A friend of the child's mother, Jermaine Dean Morgan (BM, 19, Norfolk) was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Arrest.10. Aug. 15--Marcus Duran Reese (24, M, VB) shot to death at location on Woodlake Road. Police arrested his mother, Angelica Lee (F, VB) and charged her with second-degree murder. Arrest.11. Oct. 18--Jawan Evans (BM, 29, VB) shot outside Hometown Heroes sports bar on Tiffany Lane in the early morning. Pronounced dead at hospital. Second shooting victim recovers. On 10/22, police arrested Tony Spivey Jr. (BM, 18, Hampton) and charged him with murder. Arrest.12. Nov. 18--Joseph Michael Williams Jr. (M, 18, VB) found with gunshot wounds, lying on the street at the foot of the driveway on Old Virginia Beach Boulevard. Pronounced dead at hospital. No suspect info.13. Nov. 30--Julie L. Bass (WF, 36, Va Beach) found dead at her home on Faraid Lane after flying home from California. Her boyfriend called police from California after he was concerned by a phone call from relatives. Police found Bass dead of blunt force trauma. Her boyfriend's nephew, Joshua Heim (WM, 20, Va Beach) was charged with murder. Arrest.14. Dec. 7-- Carolyn Goldman Osman (73, Va Beach) found dead outside a duplex on Atlantic Avenue. Coroner determined she was strangled, with blunt force trauma to the head as a contributing factor. Her son Michael Jeffery Osman (43, Va Beach), who lived at the duplex, was arrested and charged with her murder. Arrest.15. Dec. 23--Lucious Williams III (BM, 22, VB) shot to death, and a second man wounded but recovering, around 2:30 a.m. at location on Harrier Street. Steven Walton (24, Norfolk) arrested on 12/28. Arrest.16. Dec. 26--Keith Scott Chapin (35, VB) shot to death in his home on Blairmore Arch by a neighbor who knocked on his door just after midnight. Second shooting victim survives severe injuries. Police arrest Aaron Louis Patterson (45, VB) after a SWAT standoff. Arrest.17. Dec. 26--Florentino Martinez-Melendez (40, VB) shot to death in Trailer City in 1100 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard around 10:45 p.m. A second shooting victim had life-threatening injuries. Jorge Alberto Fuertes Loredo (31, VB) and Isidro Loredo Amaya (31, VB) arrested in vehicle spotted leaving the scene. Arrests.

WILLIAMSBURG No reported homicides.

YORK1. Nov. 15--Thomas Ragans (M, 46, YC) died from head trauma sustained in an altercation with an intruder in his home on Dandy Loop Road. Burglary was not a motive, as the victim allegedly had been receiving threats from the suspect. Allen Dale Williams Jr. (M, 38, YC) charged with murder. Arrest.
