Health Notes: Smoke in your eyes? Trouble breathing?

Here are some quick tips for parents of children with asthma who are worried about the smoke from the Dismal Swamp fire. These are from pediatricians Dr. Melissa Lexier and Dr. Lisa Stephens at Sentara Pediatric Physicians, Princess Anne location, Virginia Beach, where the smoke has been heavy.

 Tips for Parents of Children with Asthma on Dealing with Smoke:

  1. Stay inside whenever possible when you smell and/or see smoke in the air.
  2. Make sure any preventive asthma medicine is on hand and up-to-date (not expired).
  3. If your child has gone off their asthma medication, they may need to go back on it. Consult with your doctor.
