The City of Hampton put up billboards Wednesday along Interstates 64 and 664 to celebrate the achievements of two Hampton Olympians.
Francena McCorory, a Bethel High and Hampton University graduate, won gold with the women’s 4x400 relay team Saturday after placing seventh in the individual 400 meters in London. Kellie Wells, also an HU graduate, earned bronze in the 100-meter hurdles while in London.
Hampton University track and field director Maurice Pierce previously said the accomplishments of Wells and McCorory should be marketed throughout the city to grow interest in the Pirates’ program and honor the locals accomplishments.
According to a release from the City of Hampton’s Tami Back, the billboards are part of a trade agreement the city has with Adams Outdoor to use the space for free.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
