Gloucester County joined 32 other Virginia counties that received a federal designation today as an agricultural disaster area due to drought and related disasters during this crop year.
The announcement by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services means farmers have eight months to apply for emergency loan assistance, said a state spokeswoman. Each emergency loan application will be considered on its own merits and take into account the extent of production losses, security available and repayment ability.
Local Farm Service Agency offices can provide farmers with more information.
In addition to Gloucester, other local counties that received the designation include Mathews, Middlesex, Northumberland, Essex, King and Queen and King William.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
