Dwayne Demetrius Young, 22, of Newport News, was arrested in connection with a shootout June 3, 2008, at the Wendys restaurant at the intersection of Aberdeen Road and 50th Street in Hampton. He has been charged with maiming, the use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The incident began around 5 p.m. when the occupants of two cars fired multiple shots at each other in the parking lot of the restaurant. Young was hit once in the torso during the shootout, and that he was taken into custody after he was treated and released from a local hospital. Another man was struck several times in the torso and was critically injured but expected to survive.
