Commissaries will close during prolonged government shutdown

According to a media statement released by the Defense Commissary Agency, all stateside commissaries will “begin a systematic closure process to account for unsold products and secure facilities” on Oct. 2, should the shutdown continue. Commissaries were open on Monday, Oct. 1, to reduce the amount of perishables on hand.

Commissary locations overseas will remain open throughout the government shutdown.

The commissary at Fort Eustis is generally closed on Mondays, with normal operating hours the rest of the week.

The store is open today until 7 p.m. It will close Tuesday, Oct. 2 and will remain closed until the shutdown is over.

The commissary on Langley Air Force Base is also open.
