The farmers market at Christopher Newport University will present the first of four weekly markets on Thursday, March 28.
Market times are 2 to 6 p.m. and additional dates are April 4, 11 and 18.
The lineup of participating produce vendors includes Broken Arrows Farm, Brothers Farm Market, Heidi’s Homegrown and Organic, Mattawoman Creek Farms (April 18 market) and Pearl’s Produce.
They’ll join other vendors such as Artisans Bakery, Fresh Batch Jams, Owl Branch Bakery, Kettle Corn, From the Hearth: Artisanal Wood-Fired Pizza and Sabrosa Foods.
Jeweler Audrey Lassiter, Shelby Mingee’s Organic Skincare Products and the STUFT Food Truck also will be on hand.
The market is located on the plaza near the library building. Parking is free in the nearby Ferguson garage.
The CNU “green team” that coordinates the markets, in collaboration with some faculty members, recently was awarded an $85,000 grant from the USDA to support the markets and to provide stipends for students who intern at local farms over the summer.
