Simeon will face elimination in the state playoffs starting Tuesday, but Robert Smith already knows he'll be coaching into late March and April.
Smith said Saturday before the Wolverines' game at the City-Suburban Showdown that he has been invited to coach in the Senior Showcase's Florida vs. USA Hardwood Classic in Orlando, Fla., March 29 and the Jordan Brand Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 13.
Simeon senior Kendrick Nunn will play in the Orlando all-star game, said Smith, who expects to be the head coach. Senior Jabari Parker was selected to play for the West team at the Jordan Brand Classic. Smith is uncertain whether he will be an assistant or head coach in that game.
"It's an honor," Smith said. "Not everyone gets to coach in those games, so for them to select me is great, to be able to go out there with some of the best players in the country and the best coaches in the country."
Smith was an assistant in the Jordan Brand Classic in 2007 when Derrick Rose played in the game.
"It was good to be able to coach Derrick for the last time in his high school career, to spend three more days with him," Smith said. "It will be the same way to spend three days with Jabari and three days with Kendrick before their high school careers are over."
Wall art: Nunn has a new way to impress friends — take them to Chili's.
Most Simeon players took an outing to one of the restaurants on Chicago's South Side on Friday night to eat dinner and watch Nunn donate his signed USA Basketball jersey to hang on the wall at the restaurant.
Parker's Simeon jersey already hangs on the wall.
"It's pretty cool," Nunn said. "I appreciate them hanging the jersey up for me. Definitely I will (come back). Hopefully I'll have my family and friends here too."
Additions: Along with regaining sophomore Edward Morrow and freshmen Ben Coupet and Zack Norvell on Saturday following their stint in the sophomore city playoffs, sophomore Armon Benford and freshman Josh Thomas also dressed for Simeon on Saturday.
