We've got a 3-0 football team to celebrate, fall in love with and despair over, but before that, a word of thanks to Sports Illustrated.
Thank you for ruining the entire Blackhawks season by A) putting them on the cover and B) anointing them as repeat champions. Crowning them, as Dennis Green would say.
Quick note to youngsters: Sports Illustrated is a "print publication" that still comes out once a week. However, since the advent of the Internet, yours truly hasn't spent a dime on that thing, opting for the freebie articles online! It's true! You can read sports articles for free on the Internet. (I personally think that's why this country has gone in the dumper, but that's another story.)
Anyway, the last time Sports Illustrated did this was 2004. Mark Prior, Kerry Wood on the cover. Ended badly for the team, ended badly for them. If you're going to believe in curses, believe in that one.
Anyway, they did it to the 2013 Blackhawks, so say goodbye to any repeat hopes. Book it: second-round exit.
And while we're making strides under coach Marc Trestman, a quick word to Jay Cutler. Jay, you are tough. Thanks for running over that safety to get the first down. However, you are "stupid tough" in the way that Jim McMahon was. Yes, he was respected. And yes, he can't remember where he is half the time anymore. So please, take caution. Your team needs you.
As for this week, it feels like a trap game. I hate domes. I hate the fact the Lions have Reggie Bush. The Bears defense is great, but thin. Dynamic, but old. Heck, we may need another five turnovers to win it! Heck, we'll probably get them! Scratch that, it's a win!
True story: Many college football teams are trying to schedule them for homecoming this year.
