"It's about time," said former White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. "Finally they start doing the right thing. It's 2013. I think the new owners and the new GM and the new vice president of the ballclub are going in the right direction."
As one of the most vocal critics of Wrigley the past few decades, Guillen's reaction to the proposed renovations should come as a surprise to precisely nobody.
Critics of the Cubs plan claim installing a video board and increasing the amount of advertising around the ballpark is going to ruin the overall Wrigley Field experience.
Guillen doesn't buy that.
"I think it's a great idea to make it better," he said.
Guillen said bringing the ballpark into the 21st century instead of treating it like a historic relic is necessary and in the long run could be key to turning the team's fortunes around.
"The better ballpark you have, the more money you're going to get," he said. "Of course it's going to help. When you have sponsors, you have money coming in to spend on the ballclub. Then [management] can spend that money back to the players."
