The Oak Steet Book Club ("Street" was misspelled by accident, but we kept it misspelled on purpose). This summer we will celebrate our 34th birthday.
Are from Northbrook. We've ranged from eight to twelve members. Three of us have participated in the club's book discussions once a month ever since the club started.
We are unique because
We maintain poster-board charts that contain our "scores" for every book we read. We rate books based on quality and entertainment and use a scale of 1 through 10. We write short statements about the book that are recorded in a journal.
Average an hour in length, unless there are strong feelings about the selection. At the end, the discussion usually shifts to neighborhood topics, politics and religion.
We would love to meet or have met
Harper Lee, Nelson DeMille, Greg Mortenson, John Steinbeck, Leo F. Buscaglia
"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, "The Power of One" by Bryce Courtenay, "Shadow Divers" by Robert Kurson, "The Charm School" by Nelson DeMille and "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett.
"21-day Weight Loss Kickstart" by Neal D. Barnard (some of us could stand to shed a few pounds).
