Start your leaf tour northwest of Chicago on state Route 31 (accessible from Interstate Highway 90), heading north through McHenry County. The drive includes glimpses of the Fox River, several tree-covered sections and hiking among the burgundy-colored prairie grass and scarlet-red oak leaves in Glacier Park (6316 Harts Road) south of Richmond. (A stop can be made at Anderson's Candy Shop (10301 Main St.; 815-678-6000; in Richmond, where hand-dipped chocolate butter creams are best-sellers.)
