North Dallas Adventist Academy- The North Dallas Adventist Academy opens its doors for the first time with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on August 10, 2008. The NDAA is an accredited private school for grades 7-12. The ten acre property with two buildings totaling 20,000 square feet was purchased by the Richardson Seventh Day Adventist Church in April 2008 and has been undergoing an extensive renovation. The project is the answer to forty years of prayers and was jump started by several pledges totaling $1,000,000. The new school will feature a Christian learning environment and academic excellence and will emphasize personal responsibility, leadership, and community involvement. The student body will be culturally and ethnically diverse.

- Thousands of seasonal employees are needed for the eight weekends of the 34th Texas Renaissance Festival. Festival Vendors will be onsite to conduct job interviews for a variety of positions. Experience in these positions is helpful, but not required for consideration. Must bring a photo I.D. Job Faire begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. Be prepared to stay approximately 2-4 hours. - The Crowley Public Library is gearing up for another rowdy summer celebrating the "Texas Reading Club Jubilee 1958-2008"! - Twadartham is the name given to an experiment of offering our blood in donation on the basis of devotion to God. It is inspired by Revered Pandurang Shastriji Athavale (Known as Dadaji), founder of the Swadhyay Movement. This will be our second such blood donation, our first was a celebration of the life of Christ on Christmas Day 2007. We had over 5000 people participate in over 24 locations across North America with actually more than 1500 people giving blood.

- The Younger Generation Chorus of Plano is a non-profit, premier boys' and girls' chorus with members ranging from 4th through 8th grades representing Collin County. YG completed their 2007-08 season with a tour in Branson MO. In Branson, the choir impressed audiences at multiple venues including the Hard Luck Café, Legends in Concert and The Showboat Branson Belle. YG is funded in part by a grant from the city of Plano.

- Tulisoma, Swahili for "we read", is a community-based literary festival promoting literacy and the arts in the South Dallas/Fair Park area. Founded in 2003, by former City Councilman Leo V. Chaney, Jr., and Dr. Harry Robinson, President and CEO of the African American Museum, the goal of Tulisoma is to create a dynamic event tailored to engage local families, avid readers, aspiring writers and visitors to the city. Councilwoman Carolyn R. Davis recognizes the importance of reading and literacy and has worked to continue the tradition.

- Texas ZestFest 2008, hosted by Chile Pepper magazine, is a 3-day food competition and festival held annually for the zesty food industry. Over 15,000 fiery food lovers are expected to attend the Will Roger's Memorial Center and sample bold and flavorful products from around the country. The main stage will feature live cooking demonstrations from local celebrity chefs as well as live entertainment by local musicians. Tickets: $10.00, children under 4 free.

- This is the American Heart Association's signature fundraising event. - The 2008 Dallas Walk from Obesity presented by Medical City Dallas Hospital is a onemile walk designed to bring together Dallas-area residents who are affected by obesity and draw attention to the need for awareness, treatment and advocacy initiatives to fight the obesity epidemic.

- It's 1934, and Shakespeare's most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck (played by Shane Hamlin of Dallas and Robin Coulonge of Allen), have magically materialized on the Warner Bros. Hollywood set of the lavish Max Reinhardt (played by Mark-Brian Sonna of Dallas) film A Midsummer Night's Dream. Oberon finds love with Olivia, the leading lady (Julie Osborne of Dallas), while Puck manages to misplace the famous feisty flower, wreaking havoc on the set! Everyone from heartthrob Dick Powell (Kevin Wickersham of Denton) to the famous censor Will Hays (Rick Dalton of Frisco) to iconic gossip columnist Louella Parsons (Patsy McGregor Sadowski of Allen) is attacked by the flower, and only Oberon can put things to rights. - Bring your family and friends for a full-day of daring aerobatic maneuvers, children's activities, food and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds! - The 21st annual Children's Medical Center Chip Moody Golf Classic tees off to raise funds for Children's Medical Center. The shot gun shamble will take place on both the Country Club and Fazio Courses at Stonebriar Country Club. - This is more than a fundraising walk/ run it is a community day where brain tumor patients and survivors, their families, friends and supporters come together to celebrate life and walk to fight brain tumors. It is also a time to remember and honor those who have succumbed to an indiscriminate disease. People participate for different reasons but everyone shares the desire to create awareness about the need for more funding to help battle this deadly disease. - A Night of Light, an awards dinner to honor and celebrate excellence in nonprofit management benefiting the Center for Nonprofit Management. The Awards of Excellence are designed to acknowledge the outstanding contributions the nonprofit sector makes to our community with $5,000 cash awards given to nonprofit organizations and individuals for excellence in nonprofit management. - The Tea is a fun-filled literary event showcasing famous children's authors and characters, while featuring face-painting, arts & crafts, balloon artists, interactive music, and photography for young families. This year the Tea will feature a stage show by Babar, King of the Elephants and the beloved stories of Babar, by Laurant de Brunhoff, along with decadent Tea treats for attendees of all ages. All proceeds will benefit ChildCareGroup, a United Way agency dedicated to providing quality child care for low-income families throughout Dallas County. Tickets cost $35 per child and $50 per adult.
