Sunday newspaper coupons and deals for Jan. 9

Here are the best coupons and deals found in the Sunday Chicago Tribune for Jan. 9, 2011. After a long hiatus, there are great deals at CVS again this week, like cheap or moneymaking Electrasol Finish dishwasher tabs (depending on how many coupons you have) and free Gas X. Good coupons too -- plenty of BOGOs and $1 coupons.

There are three coupon inserts: one RedPlum plus two SmartSources, and one of the SmartSources has a special Johnson & Johnson section inside. RedPlum has coupons for IHOP: 20% off entire check, plus three coupons for a free entree when you buy one and two beverages. The J&J section includes a buy-one, get-one-free Stayfree coupon. The rest of that SmartSource has a coupon for $1 off Dean's chocolate milk when you buy a gallon or two half galllons of white. There's also a BOGO coupon for any Splenda Sweetener product. The second SmartSource has a $1 off Ken's salad dressing, which should lead to a free bottle when it goes on sale, BOGO coupon for Bic disposable razors, $1 off coupons for Mountain High yogurt 32-oz. tubs, BOGO Hershey bars and $1 off Cream of Wheat.

I also got a sheet of Steak N Shake coupons in my paper.

DRUGSTORES (If you're new to exploiting drugstore rewards programs to get cheap or even free stuff, see my "drugstore game" intro)

CVS has candy free after Extra Bucks: Reese's Minis or Hershey's Drops @ $1.59, get $1.59 ECBs, and Snickers Single @ 89 cents, get 89 cents ECBs. You can get six 12-packs of Pesi for just $10 after ECBs. (If you found manufacturers Pepsi coupons in any grocery ads this week they could sweeten this deal.) And if you need Electrasol Finish dishwasher tablets, there's a "spend $10, get $20" offer that would get 7 boxes for $10 -- or it would be a moneymaker if you have seven $2.25 off coupons from last week's paper.

For a full list of CVS deals, including free Gas X and Air Wick products, see Money Saving Mom.

My paper came without a Walgreens ad, so you'll have to read Mashup Mom's Walgreens write-up to find out this week's deals, which include free Bic pens.

Dominick's is advertising that bananas are 38 cents and Crest toothpaste 99 cents for members of its Just for U program -- sign up with your Fresh Values card to get that price. Once you're signed up, you need to select "Coupon Center" and add the bananas and Crest coupons to your card.

Also at Dominick's, Activia yogurt 4-packs are $1.88 -- use the $1 off coupon in this week's SmartSource to get it for 88 cents.

Dominick's also has a few new Super Price coupons in the Sunday ad. These store coupons require a $10 purchase and can be combined with manufacturers coupons. They include Pace salsa @ $1.99, Thomas' bagels and muffins @ $1.99, Minute Maid or Florida's Natural orange juice @ $1.99 and Kellogg's Raisin Bran or Corn Pops @ $1.77 (use the $1 off 3 Kellogg's coupon from this week's RedPlum insert). See my Wednesday grocery write-up for the rest of this week's sales.

Target has only one gift card deal that I see: get a $25 card when you buy Ab Circle Pro ($199) or Tower 200 ($149.99).

Menards has free items after mail-in rebate: Physic shampoo or conditioner after $6 MIR, 3-pack lint rollers after $5 MIR, retractable utility knife free after 90-cent MIR. Also cheap after rebate items: silicone sealant 33 cents after $3 MIR, candles 99 cents after $3.50 MIR.

JoAnn fabric and craft stores has the usual 40% off any full-price item coupon.

SportsAuthority has a 10% off coupon for any home gym, treadmill, elliptical, exercise bike or weight bench @ $200 or more.

Staples has 100 percent back in Staples Rewards on Avery binders, and if you buy $40 or more worth of ink they'll give you a $10 Visa prepaid card.

Office Depot is offering 50% back in Rewards on all copy and print services.

OfficeMax has free items after MaxPerks: binders @ $7.49-$8.99 and 12-pack Sharpies @ $8.29.

RadioShack is advertising a toy clearance.

SportsAuthority has an end-of-season clearance with up to 50% off on boots.

Sears has a fall & winter apparel clearance, up to 60% off original prices.
