The NFL said today that Jim Cornelison, who belts out the national anthem at Chicago Blackhawks games, will sing the Star Spangled Banner at Sunday's Bears-Packers game.
Originally, the NFL had scheduled the anthem for Lee DeWyze, a Mount Prospect native who won "American Idol" last year. He had Tweeted Monday: "National Anthem at home, yes. Go Bears."
But Bears officials said DeWyze will perform at halftime instead.
Last Sunday, the Bears enlisted Cornelison to sing the national anthem in the divisional playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks, prompting enthusiastic roaring from the crowd.
Since clinching the "American Idol" competition, DeWyze has released a major-label CD, "Live It Up," which received mixed reviews. He also performed at the Arlington Park racecourse.
The Bears-Packers game will air on Fox, which also airs "American Idol," which starts its 10th season today.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
