A man who had barricaded himself in a home in Chicago's West Chatham neighborhood this morning was shot and wounded by a police officer after he lunged at the officer with knife, police said.
At about 5:15 a.m., Chicago officers at a home near 83rd Street and Lafayette Avenue were helping Illinois State Police troopers arrest the 54-year-old man, who had holed himself up in a bedroom with a knife, according to a preliminary statement on the incident.
Police said the man had been involved earlier in a domestic incident on a nearby expressway.
Officers went into the bedroom, and the man lunged at one officer with the knife, according to the statement. The officer fired his gun, hitting the man, police said.
The man was taken to Stroger Hospital. The Independant Police Review Authority, the agency that probes officer-involved shootings, is investigating the incident.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
