Addison village planner charged with child porn

Bail was set at $150,000 today for an Addison village planner who was arrested Tuesday at his Geneva home and charged with possession of child pornography.

Geneva police said they arrested Gary J. Reschke, 56, after executing a search warrant. Reschke was charged with 12 counts of aggravated child pornography possession and three counts of unlawful possession of child pornography, according to Geneva police.

Bail was set in Kane County court by Judge James Hallock. Reading from a synopsis of the police report, Hallock said Geneva police conducted their search at 6 a.m. Tuesday and found 11 images and one video on Reschke's desktop computer that contained child pornography, and it appeared the children involved were under the age of 13.

Reschke is assistant director of community development for Addison and has been employed by the village for 12 years, Assistant Village Manager John Berley said Tuesday.

Berley said Reschke has been placed on a paid suspension, pending the outcome of the legal process. His job consisted primarily of working with people who wanted to develop land in Addison or annex into the village, Berley said.

Reschke is one of two assistant planners who report to Berley, who said he was “speechless” when he heard the news.

“This is not something we’ve ever dealt with before – it’s all new territory,” he said.

The charges against Reschke came after a four-month investigation, police said. The most serious charges carry a possible prison sentence of three to seven years.

Reschke’s lawyer, Thomas Breen, said before Reschke worked for Addison, he was employed by the Village of Lake Zurich. He also said Reschke had no prior criminal record.
