Reigning women's open champion Rita Jeptoo of Kenya and reigning women's wheelchair champion Tatyana McFadden of Champaign are to defend their titles in the Oct. 12 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, race officials will announce Wednesday.
Jeptoo, 33, followed her win in Chicago with a course-record run (2 hours, 18 minutes, 57 seconds) in taking a second straight Boston Marathon title this spring.
McFadden, 25, last year became the first wheelchair racer to sweep all four major marathons - Boston, London, Chicago, New York.
She moved to cross-country skiing after last season and won a silver medal at the Sochi Paralympics. Returning to the roads, McFadden won the Boston and London marathons in April.
