Glendale, Ariz.—Jake Peavy threw five no-hit innings in a 5-0 victory against the Mariners on Saturday, helping a White Sox's team ERA that had been the worst in the American League this spring.
The pitching troubles have been well-documented, but the hitting woes have the Sox near the bottom in many offensive categories.
“We’re seeing guys swinging the bats a little better,” manager Robin Ventura said. “We’re having good at-bats here and there. We’re just not piecing them together. But we’re playing with a lot of different lineups, guys that probably aren’t going to be with us.”
Said Peavy: “I’m looking forward to making all my starts for this team and I’ve got plenty enough to pitch well."
