Walgreen Co. is set to open a new 30,000 square foot flagship in the revamped Wrigley Building’s north tower on June 25, the company said Wednesday.
At the same time, it will shutter on June 24 a nearby location just north at 430 N. Michigan, the company said.
The Deerfield-based drugstore chain, the nation’s largest, said in March that it plans to shutter 76 unprofitable drug stores by August as part of a plan to save $40 million to $50 million per year beginning in its fiscal 2015.
At the same time, the company has opened several new upscale locations, complete with manicure bars and sushi stations, including locations on State. St. in the Loop and in Wicker Park. Other locations around the country, including Miami and San Francisco are planned or have recently opened.
Walgreen Co. operates 8,210 drugstores nationwide
