Video: Trisha Jeffrey performs 'I'm Here' from 'The Color Purple'

In "The Color Purple," a musical based on Alice Walker's novel, four decades of a woman's life in the South are powerfully chronicled. Set in 1909 Georgia, the meek Celie (Trisha Jeffrey) is pushed around in a society of limited opportunity with only herself and her religious faith to depend on. In this song, “I’m Here,” Celie proclaims her unwavering resolve, celebrating that she’s been able to weather the storm. "The Color Purple" plays Mercury Theater through Oct. 27; Chris Jones has the review.

The Tribune shot this video, a song from the show, in our studios in Tribune Tower.
