This week’s Theater Loop Showcase video is a song from the national tour of "Once," the Tony Award-winning musical that currently plays the Oriental Theatre. Guy is a vacuum cleaner repairman in Dublin who bashfully writes the most beautiful music for his faraway love. On one fateful day, the eclectic Girl wanders into the shop, overhears one of Guy's songs and becomes instantly enamored with him and his art. Recognizing the fellow's extraordinary ability, Girl encourages Guy to record a professional demo. The trouble is that the scrappy pair doesn't have any money to rent a studio. Guy, played by Stuart Ward, sings this song, "Say It To Me Now," to a skeptical banker in hopes of getting a loan. Will this heavenly music win him over, or will Guy and Girl be shown the door? The national tour of "Once" plays the Oriental Theatre, 24 W. Randolph St., through Oct. 27; Chris Jones has the review.
We filmed this video, a song from the show, in our studio in Tribune Tower.
