An 84-year-old man died today after being struck by a vehicle while walking across a north suburban Skokie street this afternoon near his home, authorities said.
The victim, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Leon Goldberg, was walking across Lawler Avenue near Grant Street when a vehicle that was southbound on Lawler hit him, according to police.
It happened at 3:15 p.m. in front of Niles North High School but neither the victim nor the motorist are affiliated with the school, police said.
Goldberg, of the 9600 block of Lawler Avenue in Skokie, was pronounced dead at 3:59 p.m. at North Shore University Health System in Evanston, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The investigation continues and police were not able to immediately provide more information.
