Northwestern will be the first Big Ten team to strap on the pads for spring football practice at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
But the Wildcats will be without 13 players during spring ball, which concludes with an April 13 scrimmage.
They are offensive linemen Jack Konopka, Alex Pietrzak, Matt Frazier and Paul Jorgensen, superback Jack Schwaba, receivers Kyle Prater and Andrew Scanlan, defensive linemen Deonte Gibson and Will Hampton, linebacker Damien Proby, defensive backs Nick VanHoose and Jarrell Williams and running back Michael Panico.
NU coach Pat Fitzgerald will address the situation Wednesday, but a team official said Monday that all 13 players are expected to return for fall camp.
Konopka, Gibson, Hampton, Proby and VanHoose are starters, when healthy. Frazier, Jorgensen and Prater are expected to vie for spots.
Gibson (elbow) and VanHoose (shoulder) played in 2012 after overcoming midseason injuries.
