Benjamin Franklin taught us that nothing is certain except death and taxes.
He should have added Tax Day freebies to his list.
In recent years, businesses across the country have begun offering free items and deep discounts in honor of Tuesday's dreaded deadline. Here’s a look at some of the local deals:
Arby’s: For the fourth year in a row, Arby’s is giving away a free snack-size curly fry because “taxes are difficult,” while “curly fries are curly and not difficult.” The coupon can be found at Arbys.com
Great American Cookies: Free chocolate chip cookie at participating locations. Limit one.
Hard Rock Cafe: If you’re willing to sing for your supper, the Hard Rock will pick up the tab. Guests who perform a song in front of the entire restaurant will receive a free entree from the Hard Rock’s new menu.
Hotel Monaco: The Chicago hotel is running a “Relax with No Tax” promotion throughout April. The deal includes a $25 beverage credit at South Water Kitchen and a $50 spa credit, as well as no occupancy or lodging taxes on your roommate rate.
Office Depot: Free shredding for up to five pounds of documents until April 29. Coupon can be found at Officedepot.com.
Schlotzsky’s Deli: Free original small sandwich with purchase of chips and a 32-ounce soft drink.
Sonic: Half-price on all drinks and slushies, which – because of the many flavor combinations – equates to 1,392,085 possible deductions, according to the drive-in chain.
