Stella Hatcliffe has been promoted to chief nursing officer at Weiss Memorial Hospital, one of four Vanguard Health System-owned medical facilities in the Chicago market She had been vice president of patient services and professional development at Weiss. Among her accomplishments in five years at Weiss, Hatcliffe, 52, has implemented a model of nursing that enhances patient centered care; developed a palliative care consult service; and created and implemented a graduate program as part of the hospital mission to invest in staff development and recruitment and retention strategy. Prior to Weiss, Hatcliffe served as director of education at Rush Oak Park Hospital. She started her career in London, where she worked with Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the hospice movement. She also was nursing director at Kings College Hospital and director of nursing practice and education at Greenwich Healthcare Trust before moving to the U.S. in 1999. Hatcliffe, and R.N., has a bachelor of science in nursing from Metropolitan University Leeds in the United Kingdom and a master's degree in research and evaluation for health services from North East Surrey College of Technology in the U.K.
