Signing Julius Peppers

In breaking from franchise policy, the Bears set the bar for paying an elite defensive player by committing $40 million guaranteed to defensive end Peppers in a contract with a total value of $91 million. The McCaskeys went for broke and Peppers has put the teeth back in Lovie Smith’s defense, carrying the Bears to where they are now after three lackluster seasons.
