The White Sox Friday placed pitcher Philip Humber on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 17, with a right elbow strain and brought up Brian Bruney from AAA Charlotte.
Dylan Axelrod, called up WQedbesday to replace Zach Stewart, will start in HUmber's place Saturday against Milwaukee.
In another move, the White Sox designated former Cub Kosuke Fukudome for assignment. Fukudome had been rehabbing a strained side muscle at Charlotte and was hitting only .171 with four RBI at the time of his injury.
Humber, who pitched a perfect game April 21, was just 3-4 with a 6.01 earned-run average. With his trip to the DL, the Sox have two-fifths of their opening day rotation injured. John Danks is nursing a sore left shoulder.
Bruney, last seen with the White Sox as a reliever, actually could return as a start. He was 1-3 for Charlotte, but had made three starts and saving 11 games.
