Southwest Side collision sends 5 to hospitals

Three children and two adults were taken to hospitals following a three-vehicle traffic crash in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side this afternoon.
The collision happened at the intersection of 55th Street and Western Boulevard about 3 p.m., said  Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Joe Roccasalva.

Three vehicles were involved, said Chicago Police Department spokesman Officer Veejay Zala.

Three pediatric patients were taken in fair-to-serious condition – one to Mount Sinai and two to Holy Cross Hospital – while two adults were taken in serious-to-critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, said Roccasalva.
At 3 p.m. an EMS Plan I, which automatically sends five ambulances to the scene, was enacted, Roccasalva said.
