Slain police officer laid to rest today

The funeral of Chicago Police Officer Hester Scott was held today at a Park Manor neighborhood church.

Scott, a 25-year veteran, was buried after the funeral midday today at Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church, 7000 S. Michigan Avenue.

The burial came a day after police say a break-in was discovered early Thursday morning at her home, according to Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.

He said the back door of the home in the 8800 block of South Wallace Street showed signs of a forced entry. Other sources said the door had been kicked in.

Scott, 55, was found beaten to death, hidden behind her home after noon on Nov. 5.

Prosecutors say her 15-year-old grandson, Keshawn Perkins, beat her with a lamp, stabbed her with a kitchen knife and dumped her body in the backyard after she caught him skipping school and confronted him.
