Firefighters and police were able to rescue a man who appeared ready to jump from a sixth-floor ledge at a North Michigan Avenue high-rise this afternoon, authorities said.
Streets were blocked in the area around 900 North Michigan Avenue after authorities were called about 2:45 p.m. because a man was acting as if he would jump from the ledge there, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.
The man was running back and forth on the ledge while rescuers tried to bring him to safety, police said. Access to the building was blocked as rescuers tried to save the man.
The Chicago Fire Department's Squad 1 was able to bring the man to safety, according to the Fire Department's media office. Police and firefighters rescued the man about 3:50 p.m., Baety said.
